Self-Diagnostics

There are many reasons why an emergency phone system may stop working. Wires can be disconnected or cut, telephone lines can be accidentally cancelled or the elevator may be vandalized. Unfortunately, building or elevator personnel rarely check the elevator communication equipment on a regular basis. The result is that it is very often a trapped passenger who discovers that they cannot call out for help.

Such a situation is traumatic for the passenger and exposes the building owner to a potentially significant liability risk. Webb telephones now have two ways of minimizing the chances of this situation arising:

  1. Auto-Chek™. When this built-in function is activated, your emergency phones will call our central computer on a daily basis. If any problem is detected (such as a dead phone line, a loss of AC power or low backup batteries), email notification will automatically be sent to your building or property manager.

  2. Voice-Alert™. Our latest innovation lets your elevators tell you directly if they are having a problem! When this built-in function is activated, your emergency phones will police their own operation. If any phone line, power or backup battery problem is detected, a voice message will play in the elevator to alert building personnel as to exactly what maintenance is required.

It is expected that self-diagnostics will become mandatory in the next edition of the Elevator Safety Code. Installing Webb equipment will ensure that your life safety systems are as effective as possible today and also provide you with the necessary capabilities that will be imposed by the inspection authorities in the future.
